At seven in the morning, in Viña del Mar, was the time and place agreed upon by a group of workers from Codelco El Teniente Division, to meet and deliver more than eight tons of aid to the families affected by the forest fires that On February 2, they affected that area of the Valparaíso region.
It was the second support truck that arrived at the upper part of the Garden City to take contributions to the sectors of Achupallas, Independencia and Olivar, as well as collection centers.
The campaign organized voluntarily by tenentinos and tenientinas managed to collect mattresses, blankets, water cans, non-perishable food, tools and work clothes, school and toiletries.
Additionally, thanks to an initiative led by a group of women from the Division, feminine personal hygiene items were collected.
This idea of gathering all these elements and going to deliver them to the affected families arose from a group of workers from the Esmeralda mine in El Teniente, which was quickly supported by the Mine Emergency Brigade, Diablo Regimiento mine and the Management of Services and Supplies.
Ramiro Salas, LHD front loader operator and one of the coordinators, commented that “workers of El Teniente continue to organize to return with more help and continue supporting those who lost their homes and belongings due to the fire. In total we managed to deliver 18 tons of contributions.”
Additionally, at the collection center located at the O’Higgins Hotel in Viña del Mar, the Codelco El Teniente Supervisors Union (SISET) delivered a significant contribution of bottled water.
