The case does not stand alone. In Curaçao, Prime Minister Gilmar ‘Pik’ Pisas filed a report last month after he, and also epidemiologist Izzy Gerstenbluth, were threatened with death via a voice message. This happened in response to the government’s corona policy. A 62-year-old man was arrested for this on October 19.
Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes has been threatened more often in Aruba in recent years. Last October she was given extra security for some time after persistent threats. Last week, two men were sentenced to 30 hours of community service after they made threats via Facebook against Wever-Croes in connection with the corona crisis.
