There were two referendums in Liestal. Both have to do with a redesign on the Orisbach.
In a referendum, the construction loan for the new park between the train station and the old town of Liestal was approved with 54.2 percent. 1,996 votes were received for the resolution, while 1,777 voters voted against it. In a second vote, 2,038 citizens supported the park at Orisbach, while 1,725 voted against it. Voter turnout was around 40 percent in each case. Both templates are linked to each other. The district planning creates the building regulations for the city park and the new construction of the post office building near the train station. The loan for the “Am Orisbach” city park amounts to around 5.7 million francs. Since contributions from third parties are expected, the net costs for the city of Liestal are expected to be between 0.5 and 0.8 million francs. Today’s post office building stands on the bed of the Orisbach, which today flows in a concrete channel. After the new building, it will be uncovered, renatured and provided with a city park. The parking spaces will be moved to the planned parking garage on the Lüdin area. The residents’ council approved the neighborhood planning in May 2023 and unanimously decided to submit this to a referendum.
