Donald Trump or Joe Biden? The question of the new US president has long been controversial. On election night, Rudy Giuliani urged people to get things done – no matter how.
Washington, DC – It was exactly the scenario many had previously feared. Donald Trump was initially ahead in the US presidential election and almost looked like the sure winner. But in reality it was all just a mirage. Because even before that, experts had repeatedly pointed out that Trump’s democratic challenger Joe Biden would unite a disproportionately high number of absentee votes in the Corona year 2020. But in most states these are only counted at the very end. So it was clear from the start that Donald Trump’s lead would gradually shrink.
The Republicans knew that too, of course. So what was to be done? Just watch and wait until Joe Biden suddenly takes the lead in key states like Michigan or Pennsylvania? Apparently, that was out of the question for Trump’s advisor and lawyer at the time, Rudy Giuliani. Rather, he is said to have repeatedly called on Trump on election night to “simply say that we have won” – even as Donald Trump’s defeat gradually became apparent.
Rudy Giuliani is irritated by the developments on election night
At least that’s what Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker of the Washington Post claim in their new book “I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trump’s Catastrophic Final Year” ). In an excerpt that the newspaper has now published in advance, a conversation between Giuliani and some close Trump confidants is reproduced.
“What’s happening in Michigan?”, Giuliani turned irritated to campaign manager Bill Stepien, chief of staff Mark Meadows and advisor Jason Miller. But they rejected him and told him it was too early to know more about it. Giuliani then: “Just say that we have won.” When the situation in Pennsylvania developed similarly to that in Michigan, Giuliani sent the same message: “Just say that we have won.” But what is too much, is too much. In any case, Meadows is said to have reacted very annoyed to Giuliani’s constant objections: “We can’t do that. That will not do.”

Arizona brings the barrel to overflow for Rudy Giuliani
In fact, Trump initially held back. But then came the GAU. Of all things, Trump’s house and court broadcaster Fox News leaned far out of the window and announced Joa Biden as the winner of the state of Arizona much earlier than the competition. Here Giuliani could finally no longer contain himself. “Now just call yourself the winner,” Giuliani allegedly said to an angry Trump. “You have to declare yourself the winner now.”
Trump no longer allowed himself to be asked twice. At 2 a.m. he went public and claimed victory. “We are about to win this election. To be honest, we won the election. We won this election, “said Trump in a speech in the East Room of the White House. Trump spoke of “deceiving the nation”, called the count a “shame for the country.” And announced that he would initiate legal action: “We will go to the Supreme Court. We want all voting to end. “

Rudy Giuliani is fighting for Donald Trump
However, it was of no use. Despite all attempts by Trump and Giuliani, Joe Biden was later sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. In mid-November 2020, Trump had specially commissioned Giuliani to protect his interests. Giuliani always maintained, without any evidence, that Trump only lost because of massive election fraud. Several lawsuits filed by Trump attorneys in various states failed due to a lack of evidence.
Giuliani’s loyalty to Trump later came to be dearly. In June 2021, he temporarily lost his license to practice law in New York because of his comments on electoral fraud. Trump himself then backed Giuliani. Giuliani was a “great American patriot”, it said in a message, New York was “out of control”. Eventually Trump came up with his favorite word again. The court’s decision against Giuliani was a “witch hunt”. (Christian Stör)
