Liepāja Theater has staged an audio performance – Nora Ikstena’s ‘Maiden’s Lesson’

The premiere of the audio production of Nora Ikstena’s novel “The Lesson of the Virgin” will be broadcast on Latvian Radio 1 in six programs. It was created by an actress from Liepāja Theater Karina Tatarinova, the voice of Liepaja Theater actors is heard in the performance.

“Maiden’s Lesson” (2001) is a sharp story of three generations of women (Aria – Astrida – Asnate) about the turn of the century in Latvia, changes of power, desires and dreams, about belonging and returning to the roots.

Madara Botmane, Inese Kučinska, Leons Leščinskis, Sandis Väljais, Anita Kvāla, Signe Dancīte, Regnārs Vaivars, Kaspars Kārkliņš, Armands Kaušelis, Kaspars Gods, Jorens Steinhauer, Anda Albuže, Laura Jeruma, Inga Siliņa, Mārtiņš Kalita, Kārlis Dreibl; record director Karina Tatarinova also participates as an actress herself. The soundtrack for the recording was created by Jānis Straume, who also wrote the original music for the work.

The recording was made in the recording studio of Liepāja Secondary School of Music, Art and Design, while the whole work process was immortalized in photographs by Armands Kaušelis.

We remind you that in 2020, when the pandemic started, Liepāja Theater actress Karīna Tatarinova had an idea to create Liepāja Radio Theater, updating and making the works of several Latvian authors sound in the voices of Liepāja Theater actors. Since then, the works of Pauls Bankovskis, Jana Egle, Sabīne Košeļeva, Jānis Joņevs and other authors have been recorded. Karīna Tatarinova has received the 2020 Liepāja Culture Award for her work so far. The audio performance “Learning of the Virgin” is one of the most extensive ideas realized by Liepāja Radio Theater.
