Liepāja surprises with 1-0 victory over Valmiera in Latvian Premier League

“Liepāja”, which started the season with four losses and a 0:11 scored/concealed goal balance, beat “Valmiera” on Sunday with a score of 1:0 (1:0).

In the previous round, “Liepāja” defeated “Auda” with 1:0, thus the Kurzemen managed to win the second victory in a row.

Liepājnieki took the lead at the end of the first half, when in the 43rd minute Luka Silagadze beat the home goalkeeper after a standard situation play.

Less than ten minutes before the end of regular time, “Valmiera” delivered the ball to the visitors’ goal, but it was not counted due to the back. During the compensation period of the second half, Valmieri had several opportunities to draw, but “Liepäja” was saved from conceding goals by goalkeeper Vladislavs Lazarevs.

Last season, Liepāja won the first game with 1:0, twice Valmiers were superior (2:1 and 4:1) and once the teams played in a draw (1:1).

On Friday, “Riga” beat “Daugavpils” 2-0, while RFS defeated “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” 5-0. On Saturday, “Grobinas SC”/LFS celebrated their first victory in the Super League, beating “Metta” 3-0, but the match between “Jelgava” and “Auda” ended in a goalless draw.

In the tournament table, “Riga” has 15 points in six matches, RFS has won 13 points, “Daugavpilij” has 11 points, “Valmiera” and “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” have collected ten points, “Metta” has seven points, six “Liepāja” got five points, “Auda” and “Grobiņas SC”/LFS got five points, while “Jelgava” got two points.

The Premier League championship with the participation of ten teams takes place in four rounds, with each team playing 36 games. 180 games are expected to be played until November 9.

Last season, RFS became the champion for the second time, which ensured victory only in the last round, winning over “Metta” team with 1:0.
