Football club “Liepāja” on Wednesday in the postponed game of “Optibet” super league scored two goals in the first 22 minutes and won Jūrmala “Spartaku”, which failed to approach the leading trio of the championship.

“Liepāja” defeated “Spartaku” 3: 2 (2: 0) in its field and celebrated the third success in a row.

The Kurzeme unit took over the reins in the 13th minute. Liepājnieki played a standard corner kick situation, but Valērijs Harbačiks was the first to hit the ball in the penalty area, who fouled his head flawlessly. The home side worked their way through the middle and almost got one back when Artūra Karašauska tried to sneak the ball past the keeper.

In the 25th minute, the Jūrmala players also centered the ball along the “Liepājas” goal, but it flew past all the footballers. Meanwhile, in the 34th minute, due to an injury, Spartaka football player Nikita Bērenfelds was forced to leave the field, but at the end of the half the guests could not use the standard situation.

Within two minutes, the guests played. 68.min “Spartaks” scored according to the standard situation. Nemanja Belakovičs was allowed to take it quickly by the referee, much to the dismay of the goalkeeper who wasn’t prepared.

A minute later “Liepāja” broke the rules in his penalty area, and in the 70th minute “pendulum” was realized by Belakovičs, scoring his 12th goal in the season. This puts him second on the Premier League sniper list. 15 goals are for Valmiera player Toluvalas Arokodar.

However, in the 81st minute, the team from Liepaja regained the lead with a penalty kick from Karašauskas – 3: 2.

This season, the two teams played 2: 2 in the only mutual match, but last year “Spartaks” won three matches in four matches.

The game was postponed because three cases of Covid-19 infection were detected in the administration of the Spartaka club in July, and one in the management of the Valmiera club. For this reason, the game scheduled for July 12 in Liepaja was postponed.

The 19th round duels in the Super League championship are expected on September 20.

In the tournament table, the first place after 18 rounds of games with 48 points is taken by “Riga”, which is two points ahead of RFS. “Valmiera” has 34 points, followed by “Spartaks” with 27 points. “Ventspils” has accumulated 26 points. “Liepāja” follows the top five with 23 points, 16 points are for “Daugavpils”, 15 – for “Metta” and 14 – for “Jelgava”, but Tukums 2000 T / TSS has reached four points.

This season, ten teams will start in the Super League, which is one more than last year and two more than yesterday. Also, this season in the Super League, the legionnaire limit has been raised to eight players. This means that there must be at least three players prepared for the association on the court at the same time. Last year, the limit was five foreign players.

As in many other countries, the number of permitted substitutions has been increased from three to five after the coronavirus break in the regulations of the Premier League championship in the 2020 season.

Due to the three-month forced break, three will be played instead of the four planned laps this season.

Last year, “Riga” was crowned Latvian champion, but RFS won its first trophy in the history of the club, which won the national cup.
