“Liepāja” and “Valmiera Glass” / “Vidzeme University College” give way to Estonian teams

Today in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL) Pafbet Liepāja and Valmiera Glass / Vidzeme University College played two away games in Estonia, in which Latvian teams suffered losses. The Liepāja unit gave way to “Parnu Sadam” with the result 68:79 (15:23, 14:24, 22:12, 17:20).

The most productive player in Liepāja’s team was Verners Kohs, who scored 23 points and won seven rebounds. Zigmārs Raimo scored 16 points and won nine rebounds. Team captain Mihkel Kirves scored 11 points for the Pärnu team. Former VEF Rīga player Andris Misters added eight points.

The Valmiera team gave way to the Estonian team Tallinn “Kalev” / TLU with 69:89 (18:21, 13:27, 14:14, 24:27). The best in the Latvian team was Kārlis Apsītis with 16 points and four rebounds. Jānis Kaufmanis and Ervīns Jonāts each added 13 points. The best in the winning team was Quinsey Taylor with 19 points. Māris Ziediņš, who previously played for Valmiera Glass / Vidzeme University College, scored 13 points, and Eduards Hāzners, who spent last season in Ogre, added five points.

In the main tournament, the teams will play a two-round tournament until March 20. The top eight will compete in the quarter-finals, with the winners determined by the sum of two games. LIBL champions are expected to be determined in the final four tournament. The season will end with the elimination games of the Latvian and Estonian championships.

14 teams – six Latvian units – “VEF Rīga”, “Ogre”, “Ventspils”, “Valmiera Glass” / “Vidzeme University College”, “University of Latvia” and “Liepāja” participate in the LIBL championship in the season of 2021/22, as also eight Estonian teams – Tallinn “Kalev” / ”Cramo”, Rapla “Avis Utilitas”, “Parnu Sadam”, “University of Tartu”, Rakvere “Tarvas”, Tallinn “Kalev” / TLU, “TalTech” and Hābnese “Viimsi” .
