In the fifth game of the quarterfinals of the Latvian Basketball League in Liepāja, the teams of “Liepājas” and “Valmiera Glass” / “Vidzeme University” (“Valmiera Glass” / “ViA”) will meet today. The game at the Liepaja Olympic Center will start at 18:00. The game will be available live on the TV channel “Best4Sport”.
In the first match of the series in Liepaja, the home team celebrated the victory with 90:77, in the second match the guests won with 80:73, but the people of Valmiera played. In the third match, they won with 85:77 away, but in their fourth field – with 79:75, reaching 2-2 in a series of up to three victories. In the “Valmiera Glass” / ”ViA” team, Edmunds Elksnis, Valters Vēveris scored 13.75, Ervīns Jonāts 12.75 and Klāvs Dubults 10.25 points in four elimination games with an average of 16 points. Guntis Sīpoliņš scored 15.25 points in the game, Roberts Blumbergs stood out with 14 points, Dāvis Geks with 13.50 and Iļja Gromovs with 12.50 points. Gromovs from Kurzeme, on the other hand, has played solo in the bounce of bounced balls, with an average of 14.3 bounced balls in a match.
Due to national restrictions on Covid-19, the game will run without spectators.
Both teams have already met five times this season in the Latvian-Estonian joint championship, four of them celebrating the victory in Liepaja. Valmiera team celebrated the only victory with the result 73:69, but lost in the other games with 86:88, 72:79, 72:89 and 62:93, respectively. The Liepāja team last played in the semi-finals of the local championship in 2016, but the people of Valmiera entered the final four a year later.
In the joint championship “Liepāja”, the leader with an average score of 14.2 points was Dāvis Geks, but in the Valmiera club, Edmunds Elksnis was the best in this indicator with 15 points. On average, Iļja Gromovs has won 8.6 rebounds in the game under the basket, but in the “Valmiera Glass” / ”ViA” team, Ervīns Jonāts has stood out in the game with 6.2 balls. In the semi-final of the winner of this pair, a meeting with the strongest club of the main tournament “VEF Rīga” is already waiting for on Sunday.
In the second quarter-final pair on Thursday, the University of Latvia conceded to Ogre at home with 64:86. In this series, the Ogre team has won 3-1, who will meet with Ventspils in the semi-finals, which won the second place in the Latvian group in the Latvian-Estonian league. The first game is scheduled for Monday. In the quarter-finals, semi-finals and third place match, the games take place up to three victories of one team, but in the final – up to four successes.
