Liégeois David Goffin wins in Three Sets to Advance to Quarter-finals

Under an already very present sun, the Liégeois made speak all his experience and much superior qualities to win the first set (6-4). After a round of observation until 4-4 where each player lost once his commitment, David Goffin, more precise and offering less points, made the break before confirming it to take the first set.

Once the collectors found a lost ball in a bush, the second set could begin. We thought that the former Masters finalist would be able to unfold and win in two sets but due to a drop in speed and a stronger opponent in the exchanges, this was not the case. The third set began in the worst possible way for our compatriot who was broken directly before, fortunately, picking up the score. It was when David Goffin led 3-2 that his opponent cracked on his serve leaving the Liégeois to leave at 4-2 then 5-2. The Liégeois then obtained three consecutive match points before concluding the meeting on the fourth.

In the quarter-finals, David Goffin will challenge the winner of the match between the French Quentin Halys (ATP 66) and Arthur Fils (ATP 124).
