Liège: Matexi obtains the right to expel opponents to its project at the Chartreuse

The construction company Matexi won its case, Monday, with the justice of the peace, in the context of the occupation of the site of the Chartreuse, where it wishes to build 48 new housing units on a green space of 2.5 hectares. She demanded an eviction notice to dislodge activists who oppose the project and block the site since March.The latter indeed denounce what they consider to be an urbanization of one of the last green lungs of the city of Liège. The place had also been erected as a zone to be defended (ZAD), with the presence of barricades and a lively camp, to prevent the start of the work.

The collective “Un Air de Chartreuse” had even lodged an appeal in extreme urgency with the Council of State, which had however dismissed it, which did not prevent them from continuing their action. Opponents of the Matexi project were also present in front of the Liège courthouse on Monday before the hearing to make their voices heard.

Following the decision rendered by the justice of the peace, the Matexi company now has the possibility of having the demonstrators evicted from the site of Lamais seems to favor the path of consultation, as several company officials have indicated in the local press. . The objective of this approach to the justice of the peace was to guarantee the rights of the company, which is in fact the owner of the land and which has obtained all the necessary permits to launch its work. Matexi also specifies that the park remains preserved and that the project in question concerns only a plot which was already concreted and previously occupied by a military hangar.
