Lidl is about to arrive in Cumberland County.
Preliminary and final zoning plans for the planned grocery discounter were approved on July 29th by the Hampden Town Council.
Lidl hopes to have a 31,000 square foot store at 4705 Carlisle Pike in Hampden Township in. to open Liebman NB furniture and mattress exhibition, accordingly Plans submitted to the municipality.
Earlier this year, Charles Liebman, chairman of NB Liebman, confirmed that the company was selling the property with the intention of moving the furniture store’s showroom and warehouse. His late father, Nathan Liebman, founded the company in 1919.
He pointed out that NB Liebman is not closing and that the sale of the property was not caused by difficult economic times, but by misuse of space in a clearly visible location.

A schedule for moving the furniture store or building the new grocery store was not disclosed. The community said the plans include adding walkways along Carlisle Pike.
Lidl (rhymes with “needle”) is a German discount chain owned by Dieter Schwarz, who is considered one of the richest men in Germany. The company operates more than 11,000 stores in 32 countries, including 100 locations in the United States.
As part of the expansion along the east coast, the chain is investing $ 500 million and creating 2,000 jobs. Lidl opened its first Pennsylvania central store at 980 S. Richland Avenue in York County in 2019. Last fall, Lidl opened its first Lancaster County store on Columbia Avenue 2001. in the East Hempfield parish.
Meanwhile, Trader Joe’s is expected to open a nearby store in Lower Allen Township in Old Bon-Ton. The store is slated to open in Lower Allen Commons in early 2022.
