Lidl introduces major changes in all stores: “Customers want this”

These are self-checks. Lidl tested this four years ago, but the pilot project showed that better technology was needed to make it successful.

Now Lidl is going to make a new effort, starting in three supermarkets, located in Couillet, Hamme-Mille and Lokeren. It is planned to roll out the system to other stores in the chain in the coming years.

“In this way we aim for a fast and best shopping experience. A survey of customers shows that they want to shop quickly and efficiently, so they like to scan themselves to save time,” he says.

Shorter waiting times

“By introducing self-checkout points, we can shorten waiting times and increase the convenience of shopping,” said Isabelle Colbrandt, spokeswoman for Lidl Belgium. “A colleague will always be present at the self-checkouts to assist customers and ensure a smooth shopping experience.”

Pay in cash

“In addition to the self-checkouts, the traditional cash registers will still be there, where customers can still pay with cash.”
