Customers of the Lidl chain have something to look forward to again. This company has long been known for introducing several innovations within its corporate network, which then catch on and are adopted by its competitors. She has been able to do this, for example, with crates full of fruit and vegetables for a few crowns or a sophisticated mobile application, thanks to which people can save attractive money if they actively use it.
It’s a big change
At the same time, several things have recently been addressed, to which Lidl has now responded very skillfully and addressed its customers. There is a lot of talk about food waste in supermarkets, as a lot of food that is stale or expired is thrown away. And that’s often just because it’s not being worked on properly. The number one topic in Czech society is therefore also the increase in prices, which especially harms the low- and middle-income groups of the population a lot.
At the same time, Lidl solves both of these problems with its new product, which it has introduced in some of its stores and is in the process of rolling it out to others as well. In the center is the effort to prevent waste and, in the second sequence, in this way customers can save money. And this is mainly in those categories that have a high turnover rate, there the goods are rotated a lot and were thrown away in large quantities. This means meat, fish, refrigerated products or baked goods.
Lidl now allows customers to purchase these products, which are about to expire, for a nominal fee. In specially created discount corners within various categories, you can buy these products in three price ranges, which are fixed and amount to 5, 10 and 25 crowns. Bread is obviously the cheapest, usually followed by fish.
Salmon for a few crowns
How much you can save on such products is evidenced, for example, by examining the cooling box in the fish and meat products department. Here we found a salmon weighing 300 grams, which cost just 25 crowns. The only downside was that the shelf life ended on that particular day. But if you are looking for a nice lunch or dinner, you can grab it and have it right away. You will save several hundred crowns on this item alone. Salmon has gotten a lot more expensive in recent months.
In this way, Lidl only reacts to current trends. In doing so, it also tries to partially prevent its customers from going to specialist shops, where transitional goods are currently offered at very favorable prices.
