The Libyan Ports and Maritime Transport Authority confirmed the readiness of Derna Port to receive relief ships, provided that the ships’ draft does not exceed 6.5 meters when they enter the port basin.
The Ports and Maritime Transport Authority said: “We formed a crisis committee to facilitate and organize the work of relief ships and deliver aid as quickly as possible to those affected in Derna and neighboring cities.”
The Ministry of the Interior of the Libyan government appointed by Parliament said, on Wednesday, that “the army evacuated the city of Derna of all its residents and journalists to facilitate search and rescue operations.”
Al-Kharaz said in statements to Anadolu Agency, “The army evacuated Derna of residents and journalists to make room for local and international rescue teams to work and recover the victims of the storm (Daniel).”
On Sunday, the Mediterranean storm “Daniel” swept several regions in eastern Libya, most notably the cities of Benghazi, Al-Bayda, and Al-Marj, in addition to Sousse and Derna, where it caused the death of thousands, with estimates that the number could reach 20,000, in addition to thousands of missing people, most of them in Derna, with an infinite toll.
Earlier today, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in the Libyan National Unity Government, Saad al-Din Abdel-Wakil, said that the number of deaths from floods in the cities of eastern Libya exceeded 6,000, and the missing numbered in the thousands, without mentioning their number.
