Libreville, September 11, 2023 (AGP) – The Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA-OCI) expressed its solidarity with the Libyan state following the hurricane, torrents and Massive floods which have submerged parts of the country, causing loss of life and property, UNA reports.
Following these incidents, the OIC Union of News Agencies extended its sincere condolences and sincere sympathy to all members of the Libyan people affected by the floods, asking God to grant mercy to the deceased and grant the injured a speedy recovery.
Through this communication, UNA-OCI announced to member agencies the postponement of the symposium “Means of confronting terrorism through the media”, which was to be held in the city of Benghazi from September 17 to 19, 2023, organized jointly by the Union and the Libyan News newspaper.
According to the UNA, the Supreme Committee for the celebration of the city of Benghazi as the capital of Islamic culture announced today, Monday, the postponement of the opening ceremony of the event, which was to be held in Benghazi on September 16, until further notice, taking into account the current situation and in solidarity with the families of the victims and missing persons.
“At least 150 people were killed due to flooding caused by Storm Daniel in Derna, the Jabal Al-Akhdar regions and the suburbs of Al-Marj,” Mohamed Massoud told Agence France-Presse , spokesperson for the eastern chief executive. A few moments later, on Libyan television, the head of the executive in the east of the country Osama Hamada put forward the figure of “more than 2,000 dead and thousands missing”.
