Library reopening in Glendale, Queens

Glendale residents in Queens already have a new library… this morning the building that spent three years in repairs and remodeling reopened. Something that the neighbors looked forward to.

“Three years from now it has been worth the wait and that’s good. I already have my card and then I make a call to everyone who lives in this area, come and take advantage, “said Galo Zurita, a neighbor.

“It was about time they opened, well… for the ‘children. My wife comes here with my grandchildren, ”added Israel, another neighbor.

The library, built in 1935, was remodeled inside and out.

The City’s Design and Construction department posted a message on social media celebrating the reopening of the library.

Outside, the building is now accessible to people with disabilities and there is a new elevator at the Myrtle Avenue entrance.

Inside, the reading rooms were rebuilt to accommodate more users. And they enabled several windows to have more clarity.

The furniture, computers and other equipment are also new.

“I’m very excited to be able to make sure it’s open, that people can get the most out of it,” said Dennis Walcott, president of Queens Public Libraries.

There is a new machine at the site. It is used to check out books automatically and also allows you to make payments in case you lose a book or the library card.

The remodel, which cost nearly $ 7 million, also restored the garden behind the library.
