Liberty Global Acquires Majority Stake in Telenet, Plans New Offer in August for Remaining Shares

Liberty Global acquires a large part of Telenet’s remaining shares. Liberty will own 93.23 percent of the Belgian provider. That is less than the 95 percent as it said earlier and therefore a new offer must be made for the provider from August.

Liberty Global increased with the purchase its majority interest in Telenet. Liberty buys 34,676,001 shares. The investor already had an interest of about sixty percent in Telenet. That has now risen to 101,018,038 shares, or a share of 93.23 of the total.

The price for a share is 21 euros, after deducting a gross dividend of one euro per share. This means that Liberty Global will pay around EUR 880 million for Telenet.

Liberty Global initially wanted to take over Telenet completely. That would happen if the shareholders agreed to a takeover of more than 95 percent of the shares. That has now failed. That is why, according to Liberty Global, a new buying round will follow in August in which investors can again consider whether they want to sell the remaining shares.

American investor Liberty Global, which is a shareholder of VodafoneZiggo in the Netherlands, has been trying since 2013 to fully take over Telenet. Ten years ago, the company offered 35 euros per share, but that was considered too low at the time.
