In the third round, the Liberec footballers defeated the league superstructure in the group for the title of Ostrava 2: 1. Slovan sent Jakub Pešek into the lead in 76 minutes and added Kamso Mara in the 85th minute, at the end of the setting he only reduced Patrizio Stronati from the penalty.
Liberec won after five rounds and was in a good mood for Wednesday’s domestic cup final with Sparta. Slovan jumped to fourth place in the incomplete table and is sure that he will finish ahead of Ostrava.
On the other hand, Baník lost in the superstructure for the third time and was left with only a theoretical chance to participate in European cups.
With a limit of 5,000 people and other restrictions due to the new coronavirus, 2,488 spectators entered the auditorium, including a few guest fans. A storm started in Liberec before the match and in the first half it was played in constant rain.
Ostrava held the ball more, but Liberec created a chance. Kuchta, who was the main offensive threat to Baník in the absence of Malinský’s domestic offensive support with Baluta, was particularly threatening. The Silesians, who needed to revive their hopes of winning the European Cups, could not get into the pace in the second half and continued to threaten the locals. Beran missed in the 65th minute, but Liberec was already celebrating in the 76th minute. After a mistake in the guest defense, the space in front of Pešek opened and his dotted shot from behind the lime fell to the pole. Slovan’s midfielder scored for the sixth time in the league season.
In the 85th minute, Liberec added insurance. Zeman’s center from a direct kick bounced right in front of Mara and he didn’t hesitate upside down.
