The first friendly of the preseason of the Liberbank Gijón women’s handball can not be held today. A suspected case of COVID-19 in the rival’s squad, the Rodríguez CLEBA León, forces to cancel a game that was initially going to be played last Friday in Gijón, but that could not be disputed either as it was not approved by the Health Council of the Principality the prevention protocol presented by the Asturian Handball Federation.
On this occasion, the suspension is due to the fact that one of the players of the Leonese team has been claimed by the trackers from the neighboring province for having been in close contact with a positive for COVID-19. This situation requires extreme precautions, which is why Rodríguez CLEBA León has suspended the two training games scheduled for this week, against Liberbank Gijón and Atlético Guardés.
The preseason is not being easy for the team that from this season will lead from the bench Cristina Head and that in two weeks he will have to start the competition with the dispute of the Queen’s Cup, facing Granollers.

Late on Monday the General Directorate of Sports and the Gijón City Council confirmed to the two entities that, after including some amendments, the CHealth Department of the Principality of Asturias gave its approval to the protocols presented by the territorial federations of skating and handball, which again allowed the group workouts in public facilities.
With the approval of the skating and handball protocols, there are now twelve sports disciplines authorized to train in Asturias. Other protocols that affect many athletes are still pending validation, such as those of soccer or basketball.
