In Antwerp, the Liberation Tunnel between the Antwerp Ring and the A12 was completely closed on Wednesday morning after a major accident. That says the Flemish Traffic Center.

A truck has started to slip in unclear conditions and has hit both the left and right tunnel walls, causing major havoc. The nuisance will probably be of long duration.
The accident happened at around 10.15 am. The driver of the truck was trapped in his cabin afterwards and had to be released by the emergency services. “A hoisting will then have to be done, which is not evident given the circumstances in the tunnel,” says Peter Bruyninckx of the Traffic Center. “There is also a lot to clean up and there may be damage to the tunnel infrastructure.”
The Traffic Center strongly recommends avoiding the surrounding area in the coming hours and opting for the E19 over a longer distance from Antwerp to Brussels.
