Liberation Festival Groningen received a hundred threatening emails: ‘Bunch of fascists’

“Such people should be ashamed of themselves”, festival director Ebel Jan van Dijk told Daily newspaper of the North† He received a lot of criticism for the new entrance fee. “Unbelievable. Lyrics like ‘bunch of fascists’ and ‘I hope you break down’ and ‘you should never produce another festival’.”

The organization in Groningen previously announced that it felt compelled to charge an entrance fee. More liberation festivals would face financial problems.

The Ministries of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and the Interior will soon discuss these financial problems with the National Committee for 4 and 5 May. A date has not yet been announced.

That says a spokesperson for State Secretary Maarten van Ooijen (VWS), whose department the National Committee falls under. The ministry does not subsidize liberation festivals, the spokesperson said. The Committee receives a maintenance subsidy from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. The ministry wants to hear where the problems are and think along with possible solutions.

At the festival in Groningen, people didn’t seem to care about the entrance fee today. “Five euros? Totally fine,” says one visitor. Watch the video below:
