The magazines and newspapers of DPG Media will definitely not return to the online kiosk Blendle, the judge ruled on Tuesday. In summary proceedings it was previously determined that DPG Media did not have to renew the contract with Blendle, despite its dominant position in the media landscape. The same decision was reached on appeal.

At the beginning of March, the judge ruled that DPG Media may make its own assessment. After this ruling, Blendle announced that it would appeal.

DPG’s titles, such as de Volkskrant, AD in The Parool, are an important foundation for Blendle’s services. It is precisely because of the dominant position of DPG Media that the company cannot simply leave the partnership, says Blendle CEO Willem Lems.

DPG finds revenues insufficient
According to DPG Media, the proceeds from Blendle are not sufficient. According to the publisher, the online kiosk is now also a direct competitor for its own subscriptions.

In the past it was possible to buy individual items via the kiosk. Blendle has now switched to a monthly fee for which readers have access to documents.
