The majority of the members have therefore opted for a new face with Den Haan, she was also the preferred candidate of the board. Party chairman Nagel called Van Brenk a “fine Member of Parliament” but not the “striker who can score”.
Den Haan is now director of the ANBO elderly association. She sat at the negotiating table for a pension agreement this summer and agreed. “Liane den Haan can tap new voters,” said Nagel at the online meeting today. That can get exciting, because some of the supporters – just like Van Brenk – are critical of the pension agreement.
In imitation of the CDA, Nagel therefore emphasized that the candidates who did not become it today are given “an important role”. Van Brenk says that he accepts the result and remains active in the House until the elections.
Chairman of the regional board resigns
Since the row at the beginning of this year, 50Plus has dropped from ten to three seats in the polls, losing about 20 percent of its members.
Maurice de Hond, who explained research data at the online meeting today, called it “a major challenge for the party to get the purchasing power part back on the table, among other things, in the coming months”.
A happy and proud Den Haan also spoke of a challenge via an online video connection. “I’m going to take on the huge task and I’m going to do it with you,” said the new 50Plus leader.
It can certainly be a challenge. Shortly after the election of Den Haan as party leader, the chairman of the Overijssel board of 50Plus, Wieger Roffel, canceled his membership, as did Rob de Brouwer. He was ranked 10th on the party’s list in previous elections and was now on the party’s program committee. They felt that Van Brenk should have become the new leader and are critical of the procedure of the 50Plus board, which supported Den Haan.
After the party leader election, Den Haan told NOS that she plans to go into the country a lot to listen to members and the elderly. 50Plus has never been included. Den Haan says to choose the course of cooperation and participate as much as possible. According to her, entering into the conversation always makes more sense than not participating in advance. “By participating in negotiations you can see which wishes may have a chance,” says Den Haan.
