Irish actor Liam Neeson said that he will stop acting in films for a while after the sudden death of his wife Natasha Richardson, DPA reported, citing The Hollywood Reporter.
For now, the filming of the latest film “Chloe”, in which the 56-year-old Neeson is involved, has been suspended. The actor was working in Toronto on Canadian director Atom Egoyan’s family drama with co-stars Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried when he was told of the accident during a beginner’s ski lesson with his wife in the Canadian resort of Mont Tremblant near Montreal. Neeson immediately flew to be by his wife’s side at a Montreal hospital, where she was initially being treated for a head injury. The 45-year-old actress later died in a New York hospital. News agencies reported that Liam Neeson and the actress’s mother, Vanessa Redgrave, attended the lights out on Broadway as the theater world paid tribute to Natasha Richardson. The hushed people cheered solemnly as one theater after another turned off their lights. The death of the actress was announced three days after the accident. An autopsy revealed that Richardson died of an epidural hematoma, a brain hemorrhage caused by the head trauma. An epidural hematoma causes bleeding between the skull and the meninges. The resulting clot pushes the brain down and compresses the brainstem, which controls breathing and other vital functions. Patients with such trauma often feel fine immediately after the injury because it takes time for the symptoms of the hemorrhage to appear. Pathologists declared the death of the actress an accident. Doctors said Richardson might have survived if she had been given immediate medical attention. However, nearly four hours had passed since the fatal fall and the admission of the actress to the hospital in Montreal. When the problem is known, and if the patient is rushed to hospital, surgeons cut out part of the skull to make room for the brain swelling and thus prevent coma or death. BTA
