Liam Lawson will return to the RB car this weekend in Austin, replacing Daniel Ricciardo for the rest of the season. The New Zealand rider explained when the team told him about the other person.
Liam Lawson: “I was told about this in Baku. During the year the situation changed very quickly. Sometimes things went well for me, but there were also times when things didn’t look very promising. However, I always knew I would get behind the wheel this season. I knew this since last year, because Christian Horner promised it to me personally.
I knew that the team wanted to test me in the races at some point, but it was not easy to be patient and wait so long. No matter how much I believed in the team, it was getting harder and harder to wait. And in Baku they told me about the decision.
The weekend in Singapore was difficult for all of us, but especially for Daniel. We all knew about the situation, but I was lucky because I didn’t have much contact with the media, so I could stay away. “
Liam Lawson said he hopes to prove with his performance on track that he deserves a place at Red Bull Racing: “It’s always been about being a future Red Bull driver and it was I have always said that to the team. This is both my goal and their goal – I think they need drivers who will be able to replace the current pilots in the future.
That’s the goal, but I don’t know when it will happen. However, I know it will depend on the results I show behind the wheel.”
