Rumours are back again. British musicians and brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, founders of Oasis, have rekindled speculation about a hypothetical return of the band by announcing on their social networks that they will make an announcement on Tuesday, August 27. Immediately, fans around the world became excited about the possible return of the group. Will it happen?
Social media was abuzz on Sunday when Noel and Liam shared a short clip on their respective Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts, as well as on Oasis’ official website, featuring a black sign reminiscent of the group’s logo, with the date “27-08-24” and also reading “8am.”
Fans of the Manchester group have been yearning for a comeback for years, after the band split up in 2009 following a fight between the brothers during their performance at a music festival in Paris.
Rumours were also fuelled on Sunday when Liam dedicated Oasis’ Half The World Away to his older brother Noel at his performance at the Reading Music Festival in England, and the song Cigarettes & Alcohol to those who claim to hate the group.
At the end of that concert, the same video, which supposedly points to tomorrow’s date, could be seen on the main screens on the stage.
Meanwhile, a report published by the British newspaper The Sunday Times cited sources within the industry to indicate that the musicians would be prepared to give a series of concerts next year, including at Wembley Stadium (London) and Heaton Park (Manchester).
The hypothetical return could be announced when this week marks the thirtieth anniversary of the band’s debut album, ‘Definitely Maybe’, from 1994.
Oasis was formed in 1991 and after achieving fame with hits such as Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger or Stop Crying Your Heart Out, they became one of the most important groups in that country and with fans all over the world, before their dissolution in 2009.
