If you own a car, you have to pay insurance as well. For the Dortmunders, the costs could rise next year.
Dortmund – The costs of motor liability insurance are recalculated every year. This is partly due to the damage budgets of the cities. Where there are fewer accidents, costs go down. If the number of accidents increases in one place, insurance prices also increase. Dortmund are not doing well for next year.

Car insurance is becoming expensive – more accidents in many cities in NRW
Each year, the General Association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV) examines where in Germany the risk of accidents is high and where it is low. The admission districts are then divided into so-called regional classes. More recently, Coesfeld drivers suffered the least damage to their cars in NRW. Food is the worst.
This year, however, not only the damage balances were calculated, but the entire system was revised. The regional classes have been reorganized for this. The goal is for the classes to group together, as far as possible, the cities responsible for a similar amount of damage. The result shouldn’t make many drivers happy.
2.5 million drivers in North Rhine-Westphalia have to adjust to the price increases for car insurance
Due to the new regulation, 2.5 million drivers in NRW are worse off in terms of risk assessment. Dortmund residents must therefore be prepared to pay more for car insurance. These cities in the Ruhr area have been downgraded.

Liability insurance for cars is getting more expensive – only Düsseldorf is happy
Münster, Leverkusen, Krefeld and Bielefeld are also worse off than before. For Unna, however, nothing has changed, just like for the Ennepe-Ruhr district. Düsseldorf is the only city in North Rhine-Westphalia that offers better risk assessments for drivers. According to the ADAC, regional classes can determine the insurance premium (further news from NRW to RUHR24).
A total of 10 million drivers in Germany can hope for cheaper contributions – more than 5 million will likely have to pay extra due to the revised system, ADAC writes. Almost half of them are from NRW. This also means that the federal state is not doing well in comparison with Germany.
It is not yet clear what the new pricing classification will mean for motorists in 2023, as other factors also affect insurance costs. In Dortmund the Tempo 30 zones are currently under discussion, also to reduce accidents.
