Li Zhiying’s team of lawyers stated at 11 o’clock in the morning that they would apply to the High Court for bail in response to Magistrate Su Huide’s decision to refuse bail.
The dispute in this appeal lies in the meaning of Article 42 of the National Security Law of the Port Area and whether the decision of the High Court Judge Li Yunteng to approve Li Zhiying’s bail was wrong.
Article 42 of the “Minato National Security Law” stipulates that unless the judge has sufficient reason to believe that the defendant will not continue to commit acts endangering national security, bail shall not be granted.
