Meet Li-Fi. With it, data is transmitted 100 times faster, and this happens not at the expense of radio frequencies, but with the help of light.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has adopted a new wireless standard called Li-Fi 802.11bb. About it say Tom’s Hardware.
Li-Fi does not use radio waves to transmit data, but light. The transmitter is LED-lamps, monitors and other light-emitting devices. The signal receiver “catches” the flickering of the LEDs and converts the photons back into information.
Proponents of the new wireless standard call it a faster, more reliable and secure option than conventional Wi-Fi or 5G. In laboratory tests, the experts managed to achieve a data transfer rate of 224 GB / s. However, experts are confident that Li-Fi will not be able to completely replace its predecessors, as they are better at transmitting data over long distances.
You can learn more about high-speed “light” communication in another Hi-Tech Mail.ru article. It lists the main components of Li-Fi, and also analyzes in more detail how the technology works.
