If the Styrian governor Schützenhöfer has his way, the corona vaccination should be a mandatory requirement for admission to the state service. Those who do not get vaccinated would behave “shabbily”.
The Styrian governor Hermann Schützenhöfer (ÖVP) has spoken out in favor of compulsory corona vaccination for new hires of state employees. For constitutional reasons, he could not “knock out” anyone who did not get vaccinated. But: “Nobody can prevent ORF, Styria, the state of Styria from saying: ‘Yes, you have great chances, but if you are not vaccinated, you will be eliminated from the start,’” said Schützenhöfer in the ORF press hour On Sunday. And he wants to do it “naturally” in the areas of the country. If you do not get vaccinated, that is “a shabby behavior towards the other majority of the population,” said the governor. Specifically, the interview was about the question of mandatory vaccinations for kindergarten staff.
FPÖ: “Compulsory vaccination through the back door”
Criticism came immediately from the FPÖ. “Again the Styrian governor tries to introduce mandatory vaccination through the back door. We libertarians resolutely reject that. Whether someone gets vaccinated is a private decision for each individual. Politicians cannot and should not impose that on people, ”said the Styrian FPÖ boss Mario Kunasek in a broadcast.

“Pressure to get vaccinated”
The head of the employee protection department in the Styrian Chamber of Labor, Karl Schneeberger, is also skeptical of the current debate. “There is no compulsory vaccination and no obligation to announce the vaccination status”, Schneeberger is quoted in the “Kleine Zeitung”. He thinks it is currently extremely difficult to have a corona vaccination obligation, even for new hires. “For this it would have to be completely clarified that the vaccination protects sufficiently against the transmission of the virus”. The ongoing discussion still creates “a lot of pressure to get vaccinated”. “Only if it is ensured that the vaccination protects against infecting others can the protection of the general public be worth more than the personal right to physical integrity,” emphasizes Schneeberger.
Marginal detail: At Applications For vacancies at the State of Styria, you can attach a vaccination certificate in addition to the standard documents such as curriculum vitae, certificates and driver’s license. However, this is not yet mandatory.
