LH deputy Landbauer: More late and night connections for Lower Austrians

Significantly better offer in night traffic for a safe and reliable way home

St. Pölten (OTS) Since December 10, 2023, there have been numerous new late connections and gap closures as well as additional night connections to the regions, such as to Ebreichsdorf, Stockerau, Korneuburg, Schwechat, Wiener Neudorf, Marchegg or Tulln. “With the new connections, we are creating a better offer and strengthening public transport in the regions and in the suburbs around Vienna, so that our compatriots can get home safely even late at night,” emphasizes Lower Austria’s LH Transport Regional Councilor Udo Landbauer.

“We have not only expanded night traffic, but are also well on the way late into the night. On every regional train you can get home until after 11 p.m. On the main routes, Lower Austrians can rely on an offer until midnight or later,” says Landbauer. The new night services complement the existing range of night buses and trains and are linked to the existing night subways and inner-city night buses in Vienna. Together, the existing and new offers ensure a relaxed journey home from late at night to early in the morning.

The LH deputy emphasizes that there must be the right offer for everyone at the right time: “Our compatriots and families who travel by public transport in the evening or at night should get home safely and reliably. With the new additional connections, we are creating an unprecedented offering with significantly better quality. Our Lower Austrians in the suburbs benefit from this, but also far beyond. The performance offensive in night traffic opens up completely new avenues for commuters, young people and night owls. It is particularly important that the trains are punctual and reliable, because the best offer is of no use if the means of transport arrive late or are even canceled,” says Landbauer.

VOR Managing Director Wolfgang Schroll adds: “With the existing and new night services, we are bringing people in this growing and vibrant mobility region even closer together.”

Overview of the night offer on the nights before Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays:

Night S-Bahn and Badner Bahn run every 30 minutes:
Handelskai – Hütteldorf (S45)
Mödling – Meidling – Vienna main route (8 stops between Meidling and Floridsdorf) – Floridsdorf – Leopoldau
Jedlersdorf – Floridsdorf – Rennweg – Schwechat (S3/S7)
Vienna Opera, Karlsplatz – Wiener Neudorf (Badner Bahn)

Night S-Bahn trains every hour, both directly from the Vienna main line:
Jedlersdorf – Stockerau
Mödling – Wiener Neustadt

Individual additional late connections, such as:
S40 Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof (from 2:37 a.m.) – Tulln Stadt (at 3:25 a.m.)
(supplements existing night buses on line 413 from Heiligenstadt: 1:25 a.m. and 3:25 a.m.)
REX41 Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof (from 11:28 p.m.) – Sigmundsherberg (at 12:41 a.m.)
S60 Vienna Central Station (from 1:11 a.m.) – Ebreichsdorf (at 1:40 a.m.) – Wiener Neustadt (at 2:07 a.m.)
S60 Vienna Central Station (from 1:50 a.m.) – Bruck/Leitha (2:31 a.m.) – Neusiedl/See (at 2:43 a.m.)
REX6 Vienna Central Station (from 11:23 p.m.) – Deutschkreutz (at 1:48 a.m.) REX63 Vienna Central Station (from 11:18 p.m.) – Pamhagen (at 12:38 a.m.) R81 Vienna Central Station (at 12:52 a.m.) – Marchegg (at 01:45 a.m.)

Even beyond the night connections described, the range of public transport options has been expanded late in the evening and at night in recent years. Today, the last departure from Vienna on most railway routes is possible around midnight or even later every day. If you want to catch a connecting connection from St. Pölten or Wiener Neustadt, you can leave Vienna between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. On weekends (Friday night to Saturday, Saturday night to Sunday and the nights before public holidays) the trains sometimes run an hour longer; this also applies to connecting connections (for example to the Traisental or between Krems and St. Pölten or on the Gutensteinerbahn and Puchberger Bahn) .
