The new 97-inch LG Signature M OLED it just has a power cord connected to the screen. All other devices are connected to the Zero Connect box, a box that can be placed up to 10 meters away. That box contains all the computing power normally found in a television: the Signature OLED M itself consists only of a screen and a speaker.
According to LG, this approach ensures that the TV looks good all around, with no cables that need to be hidden away. Despite the lack of cables, the screen can still receive 4K images at 120Hz frame rates, for example for playing games on the latest gaming computers.
Preview for the general public
How exactly the wireless connection works, LG keeps to itself. In any case, there is an algorithm that automatically calculates the best and least disruptive transmission path for the wireless signal.
The wireless box can broadcast the usual standards – Dolby Vision and Atmos, games with G-Sync support. LG hasn’t yet reported how high the lag is when gaming; gamers usually swear by wired connections due to lags.
Price
The price of this device is not yet known, but LG’s Signature line TVs are usually very expensive. For example, roll-up OLED TVs cost next to nothing 100,000 euros.
But the technology used sometimes quickly becomes much more accessible. For example, in 2017 LG presented its wafer-thin wallpaper, which can be hung firmly on the wall. LG has been selling such a TV for several years now at a reasonable price.
