LG will introduce new LCD televisions in 2021, equipped with mini LEDs as a backlight. The models get nearly 30,000 of these very small LED backlights, which together should provide nearly 2,500 dimming zones. The series will be called QNED.
The use of mini LEDs makes it possible to divide the backlight of the televisions into more dimmable zones, which in turn improves the contrast. LG speaks of almost 2500 dimmable zones, but there is also an ‘advanced local dimming technology’ in the largest model. LG calls it the first TVs to combine quantum dots and NanoCell in one product.
LG speaks of ten new models, which go diagonally up to 86 inches. LG does not say how big the smallest model is. It does state that the resolutions of the smaller models are 4K and the larger ones will have an 8K resolution. The refresh rate is up to 120Hz on these models.
Of the televisions, only the 86 “model will be at the upcoming CES fair, which takes place digitally. Oled still calls LG ‘the pinnacle’ of its offering, which means that the picture quality of these LCD TVs will not be up to OLED. can match, but that the price of the devices will not do. Besides LG, TCL already has miniled TVs on the market, with 768 different dimming zones according to the company itself.
