Streamed content is bigger than ever and has recently also extended to the gaming industry. There are several different subscription services for streaming games, including Nvidia’s Geforce Now. With streaming services, in theory, even the really high-performance games can be run without their own hardware and to all sorts of different devices.
Now Nvidia and LG are merging in a new collaboration where Geforce Now will be launched as an application for LG’s Web OS, the operating system used for the company’s smart TVs. This should allow users to play their games directly on the TV without having to connect more than one hardware controller.
The application will be launched in beta during the week and will be available for selected models in LG’s 4K OLED, QNED Mini LED and Nanocell series. Users with a compatible TV and a Geforce Now subscription can run both already owned titles and the more than 35 free titles the service offers. However, the application has some limitations and can not deliver higher resolutions than 1080p or more than 60 FPS.
No launch date for the application for other models is stated, but on the other hand, LG and Nvidia announce that they will continue to work together on this in 2022 and that more updates are expected.
