LG Electronics registers trademark in Europe for the name ‘LG Rollable’. Most likely, this will be LG’s retractable roll-up smartphone.
The Korean LG Electronics is developing a pull-out smartphone with a retractable display, the company announced in September during the introduction of the Lg wing. The Wing is the first phone in the new Explorer Project. The new device, which is being developed under code name ‘Project B’, will probably be released around March 2021 – also within the special and experimental Explorer Project. Apart from a short teaser video that LG has shown, little is known about this special retractable and rollable phone.

LetsGoDigital did report a special one at the beginning of this week LG smartphone with a roll-up display. This device could be pulled out to a tablet format on both the left and right side. Call it a coincidence, but on the very same day LG Electronics filed a remarkable trademark in Europe.
LG Rollable smartphone
On November 2, 2020, LG Electronics registered a trademark for the name LG Rollable with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). The application is categorized as Class 9 with the following description:
LG Rollable trademark description: smartphones; digital mobile phones; electronic touch screen pen for smartphones; earphones for smartphones; wearable smartphones.
The model name ‘LG Rollable’ has been submitted by intermediary Mitscherlich, Patent- & Rechtsanwälte from Munich, Germany. This company more often trades on behalf of LG Electronics, LetsGoDigital reported a year ago LG The Roll – this European application was submitted by the same company.
From the brief description, it can be concluded that LG Rollable is a smartphone, which may even support a stylus pen. It seems that LG wants to keep the name of its rollable phone as clear and straightforward as possible: LG Rollable.
This model name would also fit in well with LG Wing – this device has a dual swivel design, by tilting the front screen, you can use both displays as a kind of wing (in English: wing). In the Netherlands you can use the Buy LG Wing at BelSimpel, which currently charges € 1,000 for this smartphone.
LG has deliberately chosen to create a new telephone series for the Wing, called Explorer Project. So it is not a G-series or V-series smartphone – where other high-end LG phones are housed. It therefore seems likely that LG also wants to give future Explorer Project smartphones a unique name, whereby the name reveals more about the form factor of the phone model in question.
LG is expected to present its first rollable smartphone around March 2021. This device can be pulled out on at least one side, in order to create an extra large screen surface. LG has of course already gained the necessary experience with dual screen phones, think of the LG G8x and the V60 ThinQ. An optional cover with integrated display has been developed for both smartphones – so you can also use these devices as a dual screen smartphone.
