LG has just unveiled its new earbuds for 2022: The new TONE Free series promises both great sound experiences and extra good fit. A number of new features should make them suitable for both active listening, travel and training. We have previously been impressed by LG’s earplugs, so this could be exciting!

LG Tone FREE T90: Noise reduction and Dolby Atmos
The flagship model T90 is aimed at discerning listeners, and has been given larger speaker elements to contribute with deeper bass. Among other things, the T90 uses the material graphene to reduce vibrations and ensure a crisp sound. The LG T90 supports 3D sound, and will also be the first wireless earbuds with support for Dolby Head Tracking.
The new Dolby technique adapts the sound to how you turn your head – a variant of Spatial Audio as we know it from, among others, Apple’s Airpods models. The technique works in combination with the Dolby Atmos sound format, but should also be able to be used to upscale normal stereo soundtracks. LG has also this year worked closely with Meridian, which contributes with the sound processing Meridian Headphone Spatial Processing (HSP) for a larger and clearer sound image.
Besides that, the LG T90 has both active noise cancellation (ANC) as well as 24-bit/96 khz resolution. The earplugs have been designed in collaboration with the company POSTECH in South Korea, which specializes in good ergonomics. The T90 also promises good battery life, with up to 9 hours on the plugs themselves (without ANC activated), and up to 20 hours extra via the portable charging cradle. The plugs can be fully charged within 1 hour, and are cleaned using UV light while they are charging. Another clever feature is the possibility to use the charging cradle as an AUX input and wireless transmitter: in this way, the earbuds can be used with older equipment that does not support Bluetooth.
LG is also launching a more affordable model, the T60, which has many similarities with the T90, but comes without so-called Head Tracking.
LG TF7 and TF8
In addition to the top model T90, we also get to know the models TF7 and TF8, both of which are specially designed for training and an active lifestyle. Both LG models have an IP67 rating (resistant to rain, water splashes, sweat and dust). Furthermore, they keep the weight low, and use so-called SwivelGrip technology to keep the earplugs securely in place, even during the hardest training sessions. Furthermore, they offer both active noise cancellation and a battery life of up to 10 hours (30 hours via charging cradle).
Price and availability
LG’s new TONE Free wireless earbuds will be rolled out globally at the end of August. Guide prices have not been announced yet.
