LG launches the first gaming laptop in the Ultragear series

For several years now, LG has had a strong presence in the laptop market with its ultra-thin Gram-Machines. Now, however, it’s time for the company to broaden its horizons a bit. Yesterday, the manufacturer announced that the Ultragear product family will receive a supplement by name LG Ultragear 17G90Q.

This is a thin 17.3-inch gaming computer weighing 2.6 kilograms. Inside the thin frame, there will be a processor from Intel’s Core 11000 series “Tiger Lake-H” for laptops, as well as support for DDR4 memory in two channels with a capacity of up to 32 GB. In addition, the model is equipped with two SSDs with up to 1 TB of storage capacity. The crown jewel of the work is nothing less than an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Max-Q, with as yet unknown TDP.

In addition to neatly sized internal components, the computer comes with IPS panel in the resolution of 1,920 × 1,080 pixels, which runs at 300 Hz and covers 99 percent of sRGB color space. It also promises a 93-watt-hour (Wh) battery and individually controlled backlit keyboard. In terms of connectivity, there is a Thunderbolt 4-capable USB Type-C, a standard USB Type-C and two USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports.

The network module is powered by Intel Killer Wireless and is of the Wifi 6E standard. For wired networks, gigabit ethernet applies. The last thing worth mentioning is that the integrated webcam is capable of full HD and has a built-in IR sensor for face recognition, and that the fingerprint reader is mounted directly in the power button. Both of these functions also enable biometric login Windows Hello.

Initially, the LG Ultragear 17G90Q will be launched in the US and South Korea in early 2022, but the price is currently not available. When LG’s latest investment can be found in the European and Scandinavian markets is still unclear.

Could you imagine an ultra-thin gaming computer in 17-inch format?
