LG claims to have come up with a material that solves the big problem with foldable mobiles: How the flexible screen can be made both hard and flexible.
The foldable mobiles that have been released so far have all been forced to thumb on the hardness so as not to break, which has resulted in them being easily scratched and the folds becoming clear. LG’s new “Real Folding Window” is claimed to be as hard as glass but fully flexible, reports The Verge.
The technology involves covering a plastic film on both sides with the new material, the components of which LG has not revealed. The result then covers and protects a flexible OLED panel, which will thus last longer than today’s flexible screens and with less scratches and creases.
According to LG, the technology will work with everything from laptops to mobiles with folding screens, and also mobiles with the bendable screen on the outside instead of on the inside.
