LG forgoes HomeKit and AirPlay on 2018 TVs

The company had promised the arrival of two Apple protocols on its televisions. But despite the announcement of April, LG announces that it does not intend to offer both options on its old products.

The first option, HomeKit, allows you to take control of a connected home. The second, AirPlay 2, allows you to launch music and videos directly from an Apple device, without going through Bluetooth.

But these two features will ultimately not be available on 2018 televisions., despite the announcement made a few months ago. At the time, LG announced that the affected OLED models would be the B8, C8, E8, G8 and W8. The LCD models were the SK and the UK.

But it will not be. Indeed, the update, which was expected for the month of October, is no longer. In any case, this is what the company announced on Twitter, in response to a customer’s question.

“LG unfortunately has no plans to update its pre-2019 TVs with Airplay2 or Homekit. My apologies for the inconvenience! ”

What to disappoint many consumers, who were quick to react online. “Shame on your business”, Wrote Martin Charron on Twitter. “I’m sure over 22,000 customers will never buy another product from LG now that we know your product lifespan is well under 2 years. Especially since you said you would update 2018 TVs on your website and have now canceled it!
