Jakarta: LG Display announced the latest generation of OLED technology, titled OLED EX, which is claimed to be able to increase brightness up to 30 percent higher when compared to conventional OLED screens.
quote Engadget, this LG technology can help overcome OLED’s biggest drawback besides mini LED technology, namely the overall brightness that is less than capable. As LG Display emphasizes, each OLED pixel emits light independently, meaning it can be fully enabled or disabled.
This allows the TV to display deep blacks without the light leaking as seen in LED TVs. But at the same time, OLED pixels cannot achieve the same brightness level as LEDs.

The current range of OLED TVs can display the highest brightness levels of up to around 500 to 600 nits, while LED mini TVs can reach 2,000 nits and higher. To make OLED TV screens brighter, OLED EX (Evolution/eXperience) technology uses deuterium compounds.
This compound will allow the light emitting diode to emit light more strongly, while maintaining high efficiency for a long time, once stabilized.
OLED EX also enables increased color accuracy, estimated using an algorithm to predict the use of the 33 million OLED diodes in an 8K display. Thus, it is claimed to be able to precisely control the energy input of the screen to more accurately express the details and colors of the video content being played.
LG Display also updated the design by reducing the thickness by 30 percent and the bezel size from 6mm to 4mm on the 65-inch OLED screen. However, LG did not reveal its plans regarding bringing this technology to market.
As a reminder, OLED TV sales increased by 70 percent in 2020, despite a 12 percent decline in the global TV market. With its new OLED EX technology, LG aims to provide a more innovative and high-end consumer experience through the evolution of OLED technology, algorithms and designs.
