Before the advent of this third wave, citizens had almost broken with health measures and barrier gestures.
The hospital of the commune of Didouche Mourad, in Constantine, received yesterday an oxygen generator and a large batch of medical equipment. The donation comes after that of the El Bir city hospital, which had installed, on August 17, equivalent equipment but also an oxygen generator with a capacity of 18.45 m3, or more than 18,000 liters. oxygen. This device was offered by a private company headquartered in the Didouche Mourad industrial zone. We learn, from the same source, that another operation of the same kind is planned for the hospital
El Khroub and the Ben Badis University Hospital with new generators. Even if the pressure begins to decrease at the level of Constantine hospitals, after the increase in Covid-19 cases in recent weeks, the fact remains that this pressure is still relevant, especially with regard to lack of oxygen.
Like the other wilayas, Constantine also experienced a considerable crisis and increased the number of people affected. Moreover, it was among the cities with the most people who were victims of this virus, which has known mutations regenerating virulent variants. The El Bir hospital, a reference center for the care of patients affected by Covid-19, had, let us remember, sounded the alarm after the exhaustion of its reserve of medical oxygen at the start of the month. There were at least 40 patients who required oxygen and others were waiting at the doorstep of the emergency room. It is precisely the patients who have been affected by one of the variants, namely Delta, who require intense oxygen therapy. Until recently, the Covid-19 care centers were full, with the spectacular rise in positive cases in Constantine, which remained at the top of the wilayas most affected after Algiers and Oran. Constantine had come close to chaos, especially since before the advent of this third wave, the citizens had almost broken with sanitary measures and barrier gestures. This had caused significant saturation at the hospitals of Didouche Mourad, El Khroub, El Bir and at the CHU Ben badis. In the opinion of several health practitioners approached, as reported in one of our editions, the situation in Constantine could have been less worrying if everyone had complied with the rules of health prevention, respecting the wearing of the bib in public places and avoiding jostling and family reunions.
Moreover, it should be noted that most of the cases come from wedding parties having been organized in the houses, during which we see the guests without bib. We hope that after this wave, which has claimed hundreds of lives, citizens will understand that the virus is very dangerous against which we can currently do nothing to eradicate it, apart from respecting barrier gestures and adapting our way of life. . It is only with great awareness that we can defeat this enemy.
