Lewis Hamilton finished fourth in this year’s Belgian GP. Despite the fact that, according to his words, he once again felt the so-called porpoising.
Even though Lewis Hamilton was in third position at the beginning of the Belgian GP, he did not reach the podium in the end. At the finish, the Brit had to settle for fourth place, to which he added a point for the fastest lap of the race.
In addition, the seven-time champion admitted after the finish line that during the race he struggled with so-called porpoising, a phenomenon that causes the single-seater to bounce and which troubled a number of teams last season, including Mercedes.
“I think it was kind of a non-action race, not much going on. I wasn’t able to keep up with the cars in front of me,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1 at the finish line.
“I was worried at the beginning, we have a problem mainly with the rear of our single-seater. In addition, this weekend the car was jumping, so we went back to what we had last year,” admitted the Mercedes pilot.
“At the end of the race I was holding on to Ferrari (Charles Leclerc, editor’s note), but I couldn’t get close to him. At the end I did the fastest lap of the race, it was nice to have a lead on the car behind us. It was also very windy, so it was difficult to keep the car on the track,” described his impressions of the Briton, who also commented on the porpoising.
“The team doesn’t know what was causing it and it’s quite worrying for me. We will work on it with the data and try to figure out what to do with it for the next race,” added Hamilton.
