British driver Lewis Hamilton achieved the best time in both Friday’s free practice at the Turkish Grand Prix, the sixteenth event of the F1 World Championship series.

The seven-time world champion and leader of this year’s championship managed the circuit in Istanbul in the first practice in 1: 24.178 minutes. The Dutchman Max Verstappen from Red Bull lagged behind the Mercedes driver by 425,000ths of a second, the third was Monačan Charles Leclerc from the Ferrari team (+0.476).
In the second practice, Hamilton improved to 1: 23.804 min, which is a new track record. Leclerc was 166 thousandths of a second behind and another Mercedes driver, Finn Valtteri Bottas, was 0.410 s slower. Verstappen finished fifth (+0.635).
Hamilton will fall by ten places at the start of the Turkish Grand Prix after qualifying, as the Mercedes team decided to install a new component in his engine. In the overall standings of the World Cup, Hamilton has a two-point lead over Verstappen.
