Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton received the title of honorary citizen of Brazil on Monday, during a ceremony held at the National Congress of Brasilia. “Now I can finally say that I am one of you“said the Brit, seven-time F1 world champion, according to comments reported by the Brazilian G1 media.”I love Brazil, I have always loved Brazil.“
In June, the lower house of the National Congress voted honorary citizenship for Hamilton. The deputy André Figueiredo had presented the proposal after the Brazilian showed the Brazilian flag on the podium after his victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Hamilton has repeatedly claimed that the three-time world champion Ayrton Senna, who died in an accident in 1994, was his idol. Hamilton won the first of his seven world titles in 2008 in Sao Paulo.
By the end of 2021, Hamilton had been made a Knight of the British Empire.
The Brazilian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday in Sao Paulo.
