A source close to the consortium said Sir Lewis and Ms Williams – the highest-profile members of the remaining three consortiums – had pledged to allocate £10m each for the bid.
The people who were in the Broughton consortium were Sir Martin Broughton. He is a former executive of British Airways and Liverpool FC. There is also Alejandro Santo Domingo as a billionaire from the beer business.
So far there have been three incoming bids to buy Chelsea. In addition to Broughton, there are LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly and Boston Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca.
