Lewandowski was to say goodbye in person at Bayern

The 33-year-old Lewandowski was keen to leave Bayern a year before his contract expired and criticized the Munich club for trying to keep him against his will. The management of Bayern, in turn, argued that the whole situation was the fault of the Polish gunner, who wanted to force his departure despite a valid contract until 2023. In mid-July, Bayern finally agreed with Barcelona on Lewandowski’s transfer for 50 million euros (about 1.22 billion crowns).

“Everything is fine. I met with everyone and thanked them,” Lewandowski told Sky television as he left the club’s headquarters after a short visit. “I’ll never forget what I got here and what I experienced here. That’s the most important thing for me. The last season was a bit complicated, but sometimes that’s part of football,” added the striker, who scored 344 goals in 375 during his eight years at Bayern matches.

One of those whom Lewandowski spoke with during the visit was the club’s sports director Hasan Salihamidžič. “Robert came to say goodbye to me in the office and we talked for fifteen minutes. We discussed everything and clarified everything. Robert has done great things for Bayern and it should stay that way. On the other hand, Robert also knows what he is worth to Bayern grateful,” said Salihamidžič.

Lewandowski won virtually every available international and national trophy with Bayern. He became the league champion eight times, won the German Cup three times, the Champions League once and the Club World Cup. He is the second top scorer in Bundesliga history after the late Gerd Müller.
