Great honor for Robert Lewandowski: The world footballer of the German record champions Bayern Munich has been voted Poland’s “Sportsman of the Year” for the third time. The 33-year-old secured the title again after 2015 and 2020 in the vote of the Polish sports magazine “Przeglad Sportowy”.
The Polish national striker prevailed over the three-time Olympic hammer throw champion Anita Wlodarczyk and the motorcyclist Bartosz Zmarzlik.
The title “Athlete of the year 2021 is a very important award for me”, wrote Lewandowski on Instagram and thanked his family, coaches and teammates.
Lewandowski had beaten Gerd Müller’s record from the 1971/72 season with 41 Bundesliga goals last season.
After the election as “Sportsman of the Year 2021” in Poland, Lewandowski can also hope for a successful title defense in the FIFA election for world footballer on January 17th. On Friday the world association announced that the Pole was in the final selection alongside world star Lionel Messi (Paris St. Germain) and Mo Salah (Liverpool FC).
