Lewandowski season already better than 14 top scorer

Robert Lewandowski once again set a record with his goal against SC Freiburg on Sunday. It was the 21st goal of the season for the world footballer in the service of FC Bayern, as many a professional had never scored in the first half of the season. The Pole can further expand his brand on Wednesday at FC Augsburg. He would already be ready for the title of top scorer in a few seasons.

After the Bundesliga was founded, it took until 1988 before a player with fewer than 22 goals received the coveted honor. Jürgen Klinsmann ushered in a kind of trend in VfB Stuttgart dress. Until 2004, when the Brazilian Ailton scored 28 times for double winner Werder Bremen, today’s Lewandowski value was only exceeded by three players: Fritz Walter for VfB (1992, 20 teams in the Bundesliga), Ulf Kirsten (1997 and ’98) and Michael Preetz (1999).

On the way to the sixth title

Overall, Lewandowski would be top scorer with his goals after only 16 match days in 14 seasons of the Bundesliga history, like the TV broadcaster Sky notes. He would share the title with Roland Wohlfarth from FC Bayern in 1991 and with Giovane Elber and Thomas Christiansen from VfL Bochum in 2003. Once he would even beat himself, in 2014 Lewandowski won the trophy with 20 goals for Borussia Dortmund. The world footballer is heading for his sixth honor as the best goalscorer in the Bundesliga. Gerd Müller, who has even received seven awards, has this record ahead of him. No other player has managed this feat more than three times.
