Leverkusen’s Terrier and Boniface banned from the cup

Bayer Leverkusen will have to do without Victor Boniface and Martin Terrier in the upcoming DFB Cup matches. As the sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) in Frankfurt/Main announced, Boniface will have to watch one match and Terrier two.

The sports court punished Terrier’s foul play and the resulting expulsion in the Supercup match against VfB Stuttgart. Teammate Boniface was punished for his unsportsmanlike conduct in the same match.

Immediately after the final whistle, the striker showed the players the middle finger as he ran past the Stuttgart bench. When asked, referee Tobias Stieler stated that he had not seen the scene. The Nigerian international must also pay a fine of 25,000 euros.

The DFB sports court sees the Supercup as a separate deciding game, primarily with a cup character. As a result, it is a compulsory game and, at least in terms of sanctions, is equivalent to a DFB Cup game, the statement said. Therefore, the bans for this competition were imposed.
